My 12-year-old niece recently popped in for a sleepover and in addition to taking advantage of her dog-training skills, I put her to work writing a review of Shimmer & Splash: The Sparkling World of Sea Life (affiliate link) by Jim Arnosky. In exchange I took her to her first estate sale and bought her things her mother would never have allowed like a dusty old costume and dangerous trampoline-like shoes. Here’s what she had to say about this book and its vivid illustrations.
Shimmer and Splash
“The Sparkling World of Sea Life” is an insightful book on aquatic animals. Although this book may seem aimed towards kids around 8 years old, it’s actually suitable for all ages.
Shimmer and Splash is a great bedtime book to teach young children about life under the sea. Because it has lots of fun facts you will soon be an expert on marine life and you and your kids can go to the aquarium without the “what is that?” questions and enjoy your time more. Gone will be the days of matching descriptions and comparing the picture to the animal.
The carefully detailed illustrations will captivate many children and they won’t be able to take their eyes off of this book. Each bright color practically dances on the page with a brilliant display of words to intrigue young readers who will learn to love sea creatures from all over the ocean. Fold-out pages make the book even more exciting.
There is so much fun to explore and this book is great for young readers to learn about everything that swims or crawls in the ocean! Find this book at you bookstore to see how wonderful this book really is.
