Calling all coders! Whether your child dabbles in computer programming or wants to get started, check out the Code Phreaks club. This newly formed group is actually the latest iteration of a coding club started by Brian Myers (and maybe some of his former students who refused to go away). The group meets on Saturday mornings from 10-12 at the Northtown Branch of the Chicago Public Library (Devon and California).
About Code Phreaks
Code Phreaks is open to all, though ideal for middle schoolers, and there no fee. A student who joins in and applies him or herself will produce a game or story in about 8 weeks using Scratch or Greenfoot, a Java-based language.
There may be field trips and fabulous guest speakers, too. I think the direction of the club will be shaped somewhat by what the members want to do.
The club is just getting started, so if you’re curious, stop in this Saturday and tell Brian that Kim, The Maker Mom, sent you!
